I’ve been there. Hey sister-friend 👋🏽 Welcome to the Shades of Trauma Healing Podcast. A space for Christian women of all beautiful shades to experience trauma healing, move beyond blocks and begin fully living the life God is calling them to live. I’m so glad you’re here 😊 I’m Jenniel, a dearly loved daughter of God, trauma thriver, trauma therapist, and life coach, living out my purpose. The impacts of my childhood trauma remained unaddressed for years. I struggled through life, feeling stuck, unsafe, sensitive to threats of danger, and emotionally disconnected from God and the people around me. I desperately wanted to know and live out my purpose but had difficulty hearing God and figuring it out. I pursued education, career goals, ministry, and travelled, trying to find my place and call in this world. I thought had to do more things, but no matter what I did, I still felt unsure of who I was and what I was meant to do. I finally realized that the key to becoming who God wanted me to be started with facing my trauma wounds and pursuing holistic healing so I could remove the obstacles that prevented me from hearing God and experiencing life fully. As I healed from the emotional and somatic impacts of childhood trauma, my relationship with God improved, and I gained clarity about who I am and who God wanted me to be. I began to thrive. Today, I’m the most emotionally and spiritually healthy version of myself. I’m embracing more joy and laughter, and I’m living God’s call on my life as I walk in relationship with him. If you want to overcome the childhood trauma wounds that are holding you back… If you want to develop your ability to trust God and begin thriving in the life he is calling you to live… This podcast is for you. Here you’ll receive 🌟Trauma education to help identify and address the impacts of childhood trauma that keep you stuck. 🌟Mindset strategies and relational tips to help you develop your connection with others. 🌟Spiritual applications to help you deepen your trust and connection with God so you can gain clarity and discernment 🌟Motivational stories from other survivors so you see that you can heal and thrive after childhood trauma. My healing journey led me to address the emotional, spiritual, social, and neurological impacts and wounds caused by trauma, and this resulted in freedom like I’ve never known. And I’d love to share what I learned and experienced with you! We will approach trauma healing while walking together with God, The One who loves you most and wants you to heal and live an abundant life of joy, peace, and purpose. Today God is saying to you, his daughter… “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10. God’s got you, sister-friend, so let’s do this. Hey Sister-Friend 👋🏽
Wat is the difference between hypervigilance and discernment?
Most trauma survivors developed hypervigilance as a way of keeping safe. The traumatized brain is always on the lookout for people or things that may pose a threat to well-being. Hypervigilance is fear-based, and stems from the idea that people may not be who they seem or they may hurt you in some way.
Christian women who faced childhood trauma still long to feel safe, and part of the healing journey entails turning fear-based hypervigilance into careful and steady discernment.
Hypervigilance may have helped you stay safe at one point in your life, but constantly living in fear of people and how they can hurt you, in fear because of past perceived threats, takes its toll on the body, mind and nervous system over time.
Today, we will look at how you can shift from hypervigilance and develop discernment to get the direction you need while staying in a state of calm assurance.
Blessings and love 😀

18 | 3 Steps to Trusting God for Trauma Survivors with Trust Issues
Monday Nov 13, 2023
Monday Nov 13, 2023
Hey Sister-Friend 👋🏽
Welcome to another episode.
For many trauma survivors, the inability to trust is a genuine concern, as their trauma has left them with unwanted trust issues. These trust issues impact how they interact with others; it often keeps them from reaching out for help and support because they are afraid to trust others and risk getting hurt again, or being judged, or rejected.
When someone experiences situations that cause them fear, distress, or hopelessness, primarily as children in their close relationships, it affects their ability to identify and experience what is safe. This leaves the person unable to trust others and sometimes even themselves. A big part of trauma healing requires safety and trust in relationships, and today, I want to address what you can do to develop trust in God first as the ultimate source of safety, comfort and holistic healing.
This episode will cover 3 steps you can take to develop trust in God. Once you do, you can begin to experience relational safety, discernment and courage to reach out on a human level for the trauma-healing support you need.
Blessings and love
Jenniel 😀

Welcome back Sister-Friend,
Today, we continue to look at how to address negative thinking. If you haven’t listened to episode 16 – Struggling with Negative Thoughts,” pause here and go back to that one because you’ll need that foundation in order to get the most out of today’s episode.
We’ll look at a standard and a low-energy strategy for addressing the negative thoughts.
It takes time and energy to address and replace the pattern of negative thinking, but the more you practice and apply the strategies, the more automatic and easier it becomes because not only would it be a habit, but there would be a new neural pathway created to deal with the thoughts in a more supportive way.The freedom that it brings is amazing.
Think of what you will do and how you can think when you are not constantly replaying or fighting negative thoughts. Would you get more creative, laugh more, have more compassion and more peace, start new hobbies, develop deeper friendships, and hear God more clearly?
The benefits of addressing negative thoughts are endless.
Blessings and Love Jenniel :-)

Hey Sister-Friend,
Dealing with negative thoughts is draining. It feels like it is a never-ending process that steals your peace. All you want to do is go about your day, see the beauty in life and enjoy day-to-day moments, but negative thoughts keep interrupting your flow, and before you know it, your mood changes, and you’re in a funk. What do you do when this happens?
You don’t have to stay captive to negative thoughts. I know because I spent a lot of time and effort addressing mine, and I know that change is possible.
Over the next two episodes, we’ll talk about the first thing you need to do when you want to catch and replace those negative thoughts so you can take back your mind and begin enjoying life a bit more.
Blessings and Love
Jenniel :-)

14 | How To Know if What You Experienced Was Childhood Trauma
Monday Oct 16, 2023
Monday Oct 16, 2023
When I began working with people to help them heal from difficult childhood experiences, I began having more and more conversations at work and with people in general about childhood trauma. We would talk about their struggles, hopes and wishes related to healing from childhood trauma.
I began to see a pattern of women not understanding, minimizing or dismissing their traumatic experiences. The more I hear it, the more it breaks my heart to hear these lovely women say it, and I want to address it today.
Many women don’t believe what they experienced was serious enough to warrant seeking help. After all, they did not experience any significant events like violent sexual assault, war, or life-threatening situations. This means they often remain stuck in pain with trauma wounds instead of getting the support and healing they need.
Today, I dig into the classifications of trauma, how trauma is actually formed and why your trauma is not based on a particular event.
I will provide space for you to understand why your experience and trauma wounds deserve to be validated, voiced and addressed.
I hope this episode brings you some freedom and healing.
Blessings and Love

12 | Is Setting Boundaries Selfish?
Monday Oct 02, 2023
Monday Oct 02, 2023
Boundaries, Boundaries, Boundaries.
What are they? Is it selfish to set boundaries? Is it even Christlike?
Today, I will answer all these questions and share why I believe it is NOT selfish to set boundaries.
If you are unsure if you have healthy, porous or rigid boundaries, you will get insight into what these mean and how they appear.
If a lack of boundaries are causing you emotional and physical distress, and you know you need to firm up boundaries, I would provide examples and tips on how to start doing that.
I pray this blesses you.
Take good care
