Shades of Trauma Healing | Childhood Trauma, Trust Issues, Coping Skills, Growth Mindset, Trust God, Discernment, Faith
Do you want to overcome the childhood trauma wounds and obstacles that are holding you back? Is the impact of childhood trauma keeping you from confidently living the life God wants you to live? Does your trauma history keep you crippled by fear, yet you want to learn to trust others, trust God’s plan, process, and purpose for your life instead? The effects of childhood trauma can show up as low moods, negative thoughts, overthinking, anxiety, crippling fear, low self-worth, physical illness, constant comparison, or emotional disconnection. I’ve been there. Hey sister-friend 👋🏽 Welcome to the Shades of Trauma Healing Podcast. A space for Christian women of all beautiful shades to experience trauma healing and begin fully living the life God is calling them to live. I’m so glad you’re here 😊 I’m Jenniel, a dearly loved daughter of God, trauma thriver, trauma therapist, and life coach, living out my purpose. As a child, I faced traumatic experiences, and the impact of my trauma remained unaddressed for years. I struggled through life, feeling stuck, unsafe, sensitive to threats of danger, and emotionally disconnected from God and the people around me. I tried to control situations as much as possible because I wanted to feel safe. I desperately wanted to know and live out my purpose but had difficulty hearing God and figuring it out. I pursued education, career goals, ministry, and travelled, trying to find my place and call in this world. I thought had to do more things, but no matter what I did, I still felt unsure of who I was and what I was meant to do. I finally realized that the key to becoming who God wanted me to be started with facing my trauma wounds and pursuing holistic healing so I could remove the obstacles that prevented me from hearing God and experiencing life fully. As I healed from the emotional and somatic impacts of childhood trauma, my relationship with God improved, and I gained clarity about who I am and who God wanted me to be. I began to thrive. Today, I’m the most emotionally and spiritually healthy version of myself. I’m embracing more joy and laughter, and I’m living God’s call on my life as I walk in relationship with him. If you want to overcome the childhood trauma wounds that are holding you back… If you want to develop your ability to trust God and begin thriving in the life he is calling you to live… This podcast is for you. Here you’ll receive trauma education to help identify and address the impacts of childhood trauma that keep you stuck. I’ll share mindset strategies and relational tips to help you develop your connection with others. There’ll be spiritual applications to help you deepen your trust and connection with God so you can gain clarity and discernment, as well as motivational stories for you to see that you can heal and thrive after childhood trauma. My healing journey involved recognizing the emotional, spiritual, social, and neurological wounds caused by trauma. I started a healing journey to address each area, and this resulted in freedom like I’ve never known. And I’m ready to share what I learned and experienced with you! We will approach trauma healing while walking together with God, The One who loves you most and wants you to heal and live an abundant life of joy, peace, and purpose. Today God is saying to you, his daughter… “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10. God’s got you, sister-friend, so let’s do this. Blessings and Love Jenniel 😊 Let’s Connect Email: support@shadesoftraumahealing.com ***DISCLAIMER: This podcast is not a substitute for individual coaching or therapy. 38 | Why You Can’t Seem to Stop Controlling And How to Turn Things Around
Monday Apr 01, 2024
Monday Apr 01, 2024
Hey, Sister-friend 👋🏽
Trauma survivors develop controlling behaviors as a coping mechanism to regain a sense of safety, security, and control over their environment following experiences of trauma.
If you find that you can’t help but control others and things or people have told you you’re so controlling, I know that on one level, that hurts, but on the other hand, you just don’t know how else to survive. And that’s the thing, traumatized people see controlling as a survival mechanism
While controlling behaviors may provide a temporary sense of relief or security for trauma survivors, this behaviour can strain or even destroy your relationships. Whether it's a romantic relationship, friendship, or professional partnership, controlling actions can erode trust and lead to resentment and conflict.
In this episode, I provide an understanding of where the controlling behaviours come from, and steps to begin changing and healing.
I hope this episode blesses you.

37 | Enough Shame Already! Begin Healing With These Tips
Monday Mar 25, 2024
Monday Mar 25, 2024
Hey, Sister-friend 👋🏽
Let’s talk about shame. By its very nature, no one wants to explore shame because it means looking at something that does not feel good. Today, we are going to talk about it because it keeps so many women hostage and unable to live out their God-given purpose. Let’s unpack what it is, how it develops, and how to heal from it.
Shame is a complex emotion because it involves feelings like unworthiness, humiliation, inadequacy, and even disgrace. It is different from guilt. Typically, people feel guilty when they do something that goes against their values, a moral code, or ethical standards. Shame, on the other hand, causes the person to feel defective or a failure.
Guilt says, “I’ve done something bad or wrong, but shame says I am bad, and there’s something wrong with me.”
Shame stays with trauma survivors like a dark cloud that shows up everywhere they go. It feels heavy; it’s always whispering lies and feeding you with negative self-talk about your worth and your identity. It just does not go away, and that in itself is emotionally draining.
I will share the environments shame needs to thrive and how to begin healing from your emotions of shame.
I hope this episode blesses you.

Hey, Sister-friend 👋🏽
There’s a lot of talk about mindfulness these days, and mindfulness is often associated with Buddhism and Eastern practices, so some Christian women stay clear of it. Today I will delve into what mindfulness is and what it isn’t. Is it okay for you to practice it and if you do, how do you do it?
Mindfulness can help you deepen your connection with God. By being present in the moment and focusing on God's presence, you can experience a deeper sense of spiritual awareness and communion. Mindfulness can also help reduce stress and anxiety by encouraging you to let go of worries and concerns and focus on the present moment in God's presence.
I’ll look at barriers to mindfulness from a trauma and theological perspective, and provide you with 4 different exercises that aligns with Christianity to get you started.
I hope this episode blesses you.

Hey, Sister-friend 👋🏽
Many survivors of childhood trauma focus on what was done to them and the people who hurt them. They believe the key to healing, feeling joy and love is to have the person who wronged them confess, ask for their forgiveness, and make amends. These actions certainly help with the healing process, and thankfully, it is not the only way.
Today, I will share with you the Surprisingly Overlooked Path to Attaining Joy, Love, and Discernment.
I hope this episode blesses you.

31 | Dreading Valentine’s Day? 6 Strategies to Use if You Get Triggered
Monday Feb 12, 2024
Monday Feb 12, 2024
Hey, Sister-friend 👋🏽
In 2 days, the world will be celebrating Valentine's Day. Many women (and men, to be fair) look forward to February 14th because they get to spend time with their loved ones, sharing a favourite activity, exchanging gifts and upping the love quotient. For many other women who struggled with childhood trauma, especially when the trauma formed in a close relationship, Valentine’s Day can be filled with triggers and unwanted feelings of sadness, loneliness, shame, fear or even anger.
During Valentines, survivors of childhood trauma can experience triggers such as intrusive thoughts, disturbing memories or images, flashbacks, nightmares and even physiological and emotional reactions.
My sister, if you are dreading Valentine's Day, I hope this episode supports and blesses you as I share some strategies on how to move through this event with emotional balance.
I hope this episode blesses you.
Blessings and Love 😊
